Structural alterations and refurbishment to 100No. existing bungalows, installation of a biomass district heating scheme, thermal upgrades, improved drainage and photovoltaic installation.
Insulated pitched roofing was installed over existing flat roof bungalows without compromising the building envelope, allowing the residents to remain at home for as long as possible and minimise disruption to the estate. Sitewide drainage improvements were provided, alleviating historic ponding and water ingress to several properties during heavy rainfall.
Following concerns raised by DTA, structural appraisals of the existing garden walls were undertaken and recommendations to demolish and replace those in bad condition were followed through, with the additional benefits of opening up the estate and improving aesthetics.
Existing electrical heaters were replaced with ‘wet’ radiator systems, powered by a biomass district energy centre located within the estate itself. Photovoltaic panels have been installed to further enhance CO2 savings and provide lower bills for the elderly residents.
